'...the night is far gone, the day is near. Let us then lay aside the works of darkness and put on the armour of light...' Romans 13. 12
Over the last month or so I bet you've spent a lot of time (and maybe a lot of money?!) getting yourself ready for what is to come over the next few days.
We know Christmas is coming on the 25th December every year, but there are always things that we leave to the last minute. Sometimes things don't quite get finished. Things get in the way of our plans, our priorities shift, and then the day comes and goes and we all survive anyway, just about!
The first Christians were getting ready for something too - they had a sense of urgency as they lived in anticipation of Jesus' return. We have lost this as the years have gone by, but there is something important to recover, and that is the readiness to receive Jesus, whenever it is he will arrive. Paul gives the Christians in Rome a bit of a shake: Wake up! Open your eyes! Don't let yourself get too comfy and cosy here and now so you won't want to follow when Jesus calls!
Are you ready for Jesus?
Are you a bit too comfy and cosy?
What might you need to 'lay aside' in order to be ready to go?
