Warts and all
...they shall all know me, from the least of them to the greatest (Jeremiah 31. 34)
Who would you say knows you the best - warts and all, as they say? And if there is someone who knows you like that - do they still love you - even the warts?!
Jeremiah's message comes to the people of God at a time of great uncertainty and turmoil. They are dispersed, some in exile, and wonder whether the suffering they endure is God's judgment. Jeremiah gives no easy answers. But he does give hope for the future. There will come a time, says Jeremiah, when there will be nothing standing in the way of anyone's real and lasting reconciliation with God.
Because of Jesus, who offers himself freely on the cross, we are forgiven and God remembers our sin no more.
As we approach Easter - how might you draw closer to the God who loves you, warts and all?
