Enjoy choice food and sweet drinks
At St Frideswide’s we have just invested in an ice cream machine, with the help of a couple of generous grants. Ian Butt (teacher, worship leader and cricket fan) shares a bit about why:
Nehemiah said, “Go and enjoy choice food and sweet drinks, and send some to those who have nothing prepared. This day is holy to our Lord. Do not grieve, for the joy of the Lord is your strength.” Nehemiah 8. 10
Nehemiah was responsible for the rebuilding and restoration of Israel after their exile in Babylon. He ruled with righteousness and justice, in a situation where people had lost all hope and faith. He told people to act with radical compassion, in very practical ways, such as sharing food with those who had none.
His example challenges us today, as does the example and teaching of Jesus. Jesus showed acceptance, kindness and compassion, especially to those who were rejected by everyone else. Here, in Water Eaton, at St Frideswide’s, we are called to do the same.
We are challenged, both individually and as a church, to act in radical compassion to others……including to become better at enjoying our “choice food and sweet drinks” and “sharing with those who have none”.
Anyone for ice-cream?!
You can join us today - Sunday 16th September 3-5pm for Open House at Water Eaton Church Centre for free refreshments, games and ice cream.
