Life is more than food
Life is more than food, and the body more than clothes. Luke 12. 23
Have you ever seen a sparrow in the supermarket doing the weekly shop? Or a lily wondering what to wear? That's basically what Jesus asks his friends as they listen to him one day out in the open. He was talking about how easy it is to store up things we need, and worry when we think we haven't got enough.
The birds don't plant crops or worry about where their next meal is coming from, and the flowers don't weave and spin and stock a wardrobe full of beautiful clothes.
God, who made us and loves us, can be trusted to give us everything we need, without us needing to worry about it. Indeed, the wealth of the world and fruit of the earth is enough for everyone - God has provided. But greed, competition and pride means that there are plenty who go without.
For those of us who have more than enough - how might we redress the balance?
And how might we get beyond the need to compete and compare and simply be grateful and satisfied with what we have?
