Take off the old self
'As God's chosen people, holy and dearly loved, clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience...' (Colossians 3. 12)
If you've ever tried to put on clothes that didn't fit any more then you might have an idea what Paul is talking about here. But it doesn't have anything to do with getting taller or putting on weight..! He tells the Colossians to 'take off the old self' and 'put on the new'. A bit like some clothing that no longer fits - the old way of living doesn't suit us anymore and begins to feel awkward and ill-fitting as we follow Jesus and are filled with the Holy Spirit.
What might you need to 'take off' as you clothe yourself with the things that fit a follower of Jesus?
