Friends of God?
'Through Christ, God was pleased to reconcile to himself all things, by making peace through the blood of his cross.' Colossians 1. 20
When something comes between you and a good friend, how does it make you feel...?
Take a moment to think.
It's not the nicest thing to call to mind and perhaps there are some very real and difficult memories there. Friendship is something we treasure and when we lose it, for whatever reason, it is hard.
How do you feel about the thought that God wants to call us 'friends'? It can seem a bit cheesy, a bit irreverent... as if we are not really taking God seriously enough. But at very the start of the Bible there is a wonderful and intimate picture of God walking in the garden with Adam and Eve in the cool of the day. They are friends who love to spend time together. Humans are made to be friends with God and with each other.
Despite everything in the world that gets in the way of this friendship - all the distractions and all the things we do to mess things up - and even when we deliberately turn our back on God - God is ready to renew the relationship. This is possible because when he died on the cross, Jesus dealt with all the mess and pain and sin so the way is swept clean and the air is cleared.
God calls us 'friends' and in Christ we are reconciled to him.
Do you know God as 'friend'?
Is there a friendship you want to ask for God's help with?
