'As I have loved you, so you must love one another' John 13. 34
A new commandment - sounds straightforward... just love each other....
Easier said than done.
Jean Vanier, founder of L'Arche (the Ark) community in France, now a worldwide movement, lived this out in a very practical way as he shared life with people with learning disabilities. He died earlier this month after establishing a ministry and mission based on the fundamental equality of all people in the eyes of God.
This is the kind of love Jesus showed to rough-edged fishermen, marginalised women, disregarded children, the physically ill, the rich who thought they had all they needed, and the poor who worried about what they would eat and wear.
A limitless love based on the knowledge that all are valued equally by God. We are created in his image, lavished with unmeasurable love, and priceless in his eyes. No matter what.
How might our church show this kind of love more faithfully?
Do you know yourself to be loved by God in this way?
