Building Trust Across Difference

On Monday 6th October, our clergy team travelled to London to Westminster Cathedral for a Civil Society Summit hosted by Citizens UK. This was a celebration and recommitment to a core strategic aim of 'Building Trust Across Difference'.

We were inspired by stories of empowerment in local communities, winning change for the common good, and leaders equipped to engage fruitfully with democratic processes. From Sunderland to Bristol, Manchester to Peterborough, people from all sorts of backgrounds and with all sorts of experience have worked together for the benefit of all. Let's have more of this in MK!

We also heard from Miatta Fahnbulleh, MP for Peckham and Minister for Housing, Communities and Local Government.

At this particular time it is so important to connect meaningfully with our neighbours and go beyond the soundbites and headlines which can so easily alienate us from one another. At St Frideswide's we are always looking for ways to keep connected with one another and those around us as we 'have fun, make friends and grow disciples of Jesus'.

Bishop Sarah Mulally, newly designated as our next Archbishop of Canterbury, encouraged us in her first address on the announcement of her appointment, to 'seek and serve Christ in one another'. This is at the heart of our commitment to community organising as a way of making change and building relationships. We honour one another as people created in love in the image of God by listening, learning, serving and working for justice. May we be strengthened by the Spirit as we follow this call.
